It was established in 1919 by developers from Virginia from the Shenandoah Valley, and hence the name. The borders of the neighborhood are Coral Way to the south, Calle Ocho to the North, SW 12th Ave to the east and SW 27th Ave to the west. Shenandoah, has been increasingly attracting young professionals that work in the nearby financial district. It is virtually built out with very few lots remaining, which has caused prices to go up in the last decade. Thanks to a very proactive Neighborhood Civic Association, which has protected the area from commercial over-development, this part of the city’s original core has maintained its integrity and can be described as an inner city oasis.
